History of Mela

Prof. Mohan Singh Fair is the Oldest fair in Punjab, which promotes and portraits of Punjabi culture. it was first organized in the year 1978 by S. Jagdev Singh Jassowal. The Fair boasts of international standard due to diverse domain it conducts and the offcings which by any means are no less than any other fair held in any part of the world. But being an international fair, it is still stuck to its roots of representing Punjabi culture and that’s what it is all about “traditionalism with modernizations”uIn the festival number of cultural events, sports competitions, exhibitions, Drama and Theater, Religious Program and famous Punjabi Singers Performances.u39 Fairs have already been conducted successfully. 40th Fair comes with lots of new things and exhibitions,  which makes it one of the different fair among all fairs in Nation.38th Prof. Mohan Singh International Cultural Fair & Trade Fest is the Most Diverse & Biggest Fair In Punjab

About Prof. Mohan Singh & S. Jagdev Singh Jassowal

Prof. Mohan Singh was born on 20 October 1905 in Mardan (Now in Pakistan) and laid down his life in Ludhiana. He is regarded as one of the best Punjabi poets of modern times. His Poetic work included almost all aspect of Punjab and it’s culture. One can meet character of his poems everywhere. His outlook was secular and the well known works include; Savee Patter, Kasumbhara, Adhvate, Kach Sach, Awazan, Wadda Vela, Jandre, Jai Mir, Boohe & Nankayan.

S. Jagdev Singh Jassowal  Born on April 30th 1935 in the village of Jassowal, District Ludhiana.
Sh. Jagdev Singh Jassowal was a personality who believed in contributing socially and culturally. he used to organise Hockey and Kabaddi tournaments at village level with the help of local youth. he was chosen Sarpanch of his village after returning from jail for participating in a Rally of Punjabi Morcha. he was elected as the M.L.A. of Raikot conituency in 1980 also servings as vice President of PSCC.

He always kept politics behind social works and was always a contributor to social cause and cultural promotions. it was in 1978 that he started with the concept of cultural fairs and laid the foundation of Prof. Mohan Singh Mela. He will always be alive in our heart for the service and love he has given to his motherland by promoting the cultural colors of Punjab through his continuous efforts.

He ceremonially passed over his turban (Dastaar Bandi) and responsibility of Prof. Mohan Singh Mela to Sh. Jasvir Singh Grewal in 2013.
